1. Eligibility ?xml:namespace>
Exchange students who wish to study at Fudan must be attending a university that has an active student exchange agreement with Fudan. You can check if your university has a student exchange agreement with Fudan from the Office for Student Exchange Programs at your University. The Application Form for the Student Exchange Program, and all other application documents should be forwarded to your university’s Office for Student Exchange Programs. Please DO NOT send your applications directly to Fudan.
Agreements signed directly by Fudan and your home institutions are referred as University-level exchange agreement.
2. Exchange Student Category
Chinese Language Studentrefers to students who study pure Chinese Language in language school (
1, Chinese intensive reading;
2, Chinese extensive reading
3, Chinese listening, etc.
General visiting student refers to undergraduate non-degree students who study in specific majors instead of studying pure Chinese language. Students need to clarify subject or field of study in the application form.Courses may be taught in Chinese or English. Students in this category may take courses like:
1, undergraduate courses taught in Chinese if they have Chinese language proficiency;
2, undergraduate courses taught in English;
3, Chinese language courses (electives) 4hours a week
Senior visiting studentrefers to graduate non-degree students who study in specific majors instead of studying pure Chinese language. Students need to clarify subject or field of study in the application form. Students in this category may take courses like:
1, graduate courses taught in Chinese if they have Chinese language proficiency;
2, graduate courses taught in English;
3, Chinese language courses (electives) in graduate programs
3. Teaching Language
The official teaching language in
Chinese Language Student
Chinese Language students will have a positioning test on their Chinese language proficiency after registration for enrollment in ICES and will be positioned from level A (totally beginner) to level I (advanced learner). No certificate of language proficiency is needed.
General/Senior Visiting student
If exchange students choose classes taught in Chinese, you must have HSK 6 (Chinese Mandarin Test) and test score must be above 200. If you haven’t, you might not understand the courses taught in Chinese and you might not pass the exam and get the credits.
Exchange students can select courses taught in English (English Media) on curriculum schedule book. If exchange students from non-native-speaking countries, would like to choose classes taught in English, your TOEFL test score above 550(PBT) or 80(IBT) or IELTS test score above 6.0(all items) is a must. No lanaguage certificates are needed for exchange students from native-speaking countries.
4. Online application (application materials will be waived if students upload their documents in the system properly or upon request)

5. Nomination and Application Deadline
- Nomination Deadline: April 20 for Fall semester (early September to mid of January)
Oct. 20 for Spring semester (late Febuary to early July)
- Application deadline: May 15 for Fall semester
Nov. 15 for Spring semester
About Physical Examination Record For Foreigner For exchange application, Fudan doesn’t need the Physical Examination Record For Foreigner. Students complete Physical Examination Record For Foreigner, and please keep it with himself/herself for visa application if Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your city needs it. If Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your city doesn’t need it and you want to apply for residence permit after you register at Fudan, you can also do the physical examination on campus if campus service is available or in Shanghai.
